Who We Are

Tammie Guerra

Tammie Guerra, MS CCC-SLP/L, is a licensed pediatric speech-language pathologist who earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Communication Disorders from the University of New Hampshire in 2003 and her Master’s Degree in Speech-Language Pathology from the University of Rhode Island in 2005. Tammie is a certified member of the American Speech Language Hearing Association (ASHA) and is licensed in the states of Rhode Island and Massachusetts. She lives in Barrington, RI

Tammie has provided therapy in a variety of settings, including school, private clinic, and home-based early intervention services, to children from 18 months and up. She has spent the last 7 years home, raising her two young children. Tammie’s goal is to provide quality home-based speech therapy services to children in the Rhode Island East Bay area.

RI Speech Therapy can provide therapy to children with mild speech/language delays or for those who may be at-risk for a speech/language disorder. We believe early intervention is critical to the development of strong communication skills and educational success.

RI Speech Therapy can act as a supplement to school-based services.

Parents are encouraged to take an active role during therapy. Parent education and modeling of speech/language facilitation techniques are included in each session.

Consultation with educators, babysitters, siblings, etc. can also be a part of the therapy process.

Tammie provides speech therapy for toddlers and school-age children who have a wide variety of speech-language needs. She has a passion for working with children and is committed to helping young children become successful communicators. Tammie partners with parents to encourage communication development and believes that children learn more when they are having fun and feel secure. Tammie’s approach is very warm, kind, and understanding. She understands each family dynamic is different and she modifies her approach to accommodate those differences. She also brings a lot of energy and enthusiasm to each personalized therapy session in order to make therapy fun and motivating for children of any age.

Our Services

A free screening is available for parents concerned that their child may have a speech and/or language disorder. At this time, we will determine if your child’s speech/language skills are developing appropriately or if your child could benefit from a comprehensive assessment.

Your child’s speech, language and communication abilities will be formally assessed to determine if a communication problem exists. The assessment will determine your child’s strengths and weaknesses and identify goals for therapy. Parent interview, observation, and formal testing will be conducted. Informal assessment and play-based assessments may also be provided for very young children or those who are difficult to assess formally. The initial assessment will take 1-2 hours.

Therapy sessions are conducted in your home and are designed to meet the specific needs of your child. During each session, your child will engage in games and activities that target specific communication goals. For very young children, we may use your child’s favorite toys to make therapy more meaningful and to educate you on how to best use a particular toy for communication development. Therapy sessions are fun, motivating, and effective. Parents may observe and participate in therapy sessions and are encouraged to ask questions and practice skills with their child between appointments. Therapy sessions typically consist of 45 minutes of direct therapy with 15 minutes for parent consultation and progress notes.

Consultation can be provided to educators and others (i.e. daycare providers) in your child’s life to ensure that newly-learned skills are being carried over into everyday activities. I am also available to attend IEP meetings to help you advocate for your child.

Do You take insurance?

RI Speech Therapy does not currently take insurance, however we are happy to provide you with a Superbill if you would like to submit it to your insurance for reimbursement.

What are your fees?

Screening: FREE

Comprehensive Speech and Language Assessment: (1-2 hour session) with written report of results and treatment goals: $300

Articulation Assessment: (1 hour session) with written report of results and treatment goals: $200

Ongoing Speech/Language Treatment: at your home (1 hour session: 45 minutes of direct therapy with 15 minutes for parent consultation): $100/session

*Fee also covers time spent on planning for session, driving to your location, and writing up a progress note

Consultation: Includes consulting in person with your child’s teachers, daycare providers, babysitters, etc., or attending your child’s IEP meeting. Also includes a written report of suggestions discussed during the consultation. $90/consultation (up to 1 hour)
